Book: In the footsteps of a WWII Army Doctor by Anne Nicholls, paperback.
Discounted: Slight bend to pages top right corner of book,
This book is a memoir about the experiences of a World War II army doctor, based on the diaries and letters of Kenneth Hulbert, FRCS. Written chronologically as events unfolded, it covers his experiences as a surgeon in Kent treating casualties during the Battle of Britain, serving on an ambulance train in the Sudan, working in a military hospital in Poona during the Quit India riots, building a bamboo hospital in Bangladesh (then part of India) during the Bengal famine of 1943 and treating casualties from the Burma campaign in 1943-44. The testimonies of other doctors and nurses have been woven into the book to provide a broad perspective and context, along with the experiences of his daughter, the author, who retraced his steps in Egypt, Sudan and India more than 40 years later.
